Affected by the global foreign trade economic environment in the past two years, shipping prices began to skyrocket in 2021. However, since entering 2022, it has begun to decline steadily. We will bring you the latest news by comparing the 40GP(HQ) sea freight prices of 17 important ports in Europe and the United States in 2021 and 2022.
The data shows that some key ports in the United States have seen more price changes than some key ports in Europe.
The 40GP(HQ) sea freight prices for some important ports in Europe, Poland, Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium, and the United Kingdom increased nearly 1.6 times from February 2021 to the end of the third quarter, roughly from $10,000 to $16,000. Since the beginning of 2022, it has continued to decline until October, which is less than half the price of last February at no more than $5000. The total shipping time is about 35 days.
The U.S. ports of Los Angeles, Long Beach, Oakland, Tacoma, and Seattle followed roughly the same trend as European ports, while their change rate has nearly doubled. From January to September 2021, the 40GP(HQ) sea freight prices have more than tripled from $5,000 to $17,000. After steep declines in October and November 2021, December once again reached similar heights to September of the same year. From the beginning of 2022, it continued to decline, and until October it was less than half the price of February 2021 at no more than $2500. But these ports have shorter transit times, 16 to 18 days.
For other U.S. ports such as New York, Savannah, Charleston, Norfolk, Houston, and Miami, 40GP(HQ) ocean freight rates rose from nearly $7,000 in early 2021 to more than $23,000 in September. Also after a two-month slump, it started to pick up at the end of December 2021 at $18000. After experiencing a continuous decline since the beginning of 2022, in October, it returned to the same level or even lower than that in February 2021. Like all key ports in Europe, the required transit time is about 35 days.
Judging from the comparison of the 40GP(HQ) sea freight prices of these major ports in Europe and the US in 2021 and 2022, the current 40GP(HQ) sea freight prices have reached the lowest level in the past two years. As sea freight rates drop, our cost-effectiveness will increase.
